About the Temple :

An ancient temple located at Tanjakoor village in Sivaganga district of Tamilnadu, Sri Gnanaambika samedha Paranjothi Eeshwarar temple is truly divine and one can feel the spiritual energy in it's true form.

Sundarar, an ardent saint of Lord Shiva and one of the 4 Saiva Kuravas had sung about this deity (7th Thirumurai). This temple is considered to be one of the "Vaippu Sthalas".

This Shiva temple was built initially by the King Thanjaivannavan as per the orders of Sage Agasthya. Poiyamozhi Pulavar, one of ancient Tamil poets a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva is believed to have prayed to the Lord Shiva deity in this temple. This temple is believed is located close to the Keezhadi civilization.

During 1961, in the presence of Sri La Sri Maha periyava and Sri Sivakumara Mouna guru swamigal, the Maha Kumbabhishekam of this temple was performed. The temple is now undergoing a massive renovation work with the construction of new five tier Rajagopuram, Mun (Front) Mandapam, Entrace arch on both North and south entraces, spacious Madapalli, separate Sannidhi's of Parivara devatha's - Lord Ganesha, Subramaniya, Maha Vishnu, Maha Lakshmi, Dhakshinaa moorty, Swarna-aagarshana Bhairavar, Navagrahas, Surya & Chandra. The old brick and limestone Vimaana over main deity of Lord Paranjtohi Eeshwarar is replaced with a beautiful 3 tier Granite vimaana.

Background of the main deity :

Going by the epic, Lord Brahma, Vishnu, Indra and Godess Lakshmi, Saraswathi and Parvathi requested Lord Shiva's Jothi darshan(Eternal Light). The Lord agreed and asked them to reach vilva vana in south of India. During those days the temple area was covered with lot of Vilva trees and is referred to Vilva vanaa. When they reached here, they were graced them with Paranjothi Darshan. During Ramavatharam, Lord Rama and Sita along with Lakshmana stayed here and worshipped Paranjothi Eeshwarar. Agathiya & Gouthama Rishis also were graced with Lord's darshan at this temple. Shri Paramjyotishwarar and Gnanambikai are the names the deities in the temple.

Construction :

Total estimate of work is about Rs.1.5 crore and with the grace of Lord Paranjothi Eeshwarar and the donations from the Bhaktaas, the activities are beeing carried out. The Kodi Maram (flag post) renovation work has commenced recently at a cost of around 4 Lakhs. Estimate of remaining work is about Rs.40Lakhs which includes Ground filling, Electrical, Plumbing, Panchavarna painting for the entire complex, Kumbabhishekam preparations etc... We request your kind and generous contribution to complete the remaining work and prepare for a grand Kumbabhishekam sooner.
