The Events That Shaped all of us and for that matter “BOOZIV”

1.   Circumstance : The Exodus of 1990

2.   The Instant Connect : While buying vegetables at the local market in Pune, Rohit heard someone in the crowd speak in Kashmiri.  He felt a certain joy and an urge to connect with the couple. Rohit realized that language in itself is the biggest connect and a tool to keep KP legacy alive. We all must have one time or the other gone through this experience and the feeling.

3.   The Inspiration : He was in for the rude shock when in one of the Sabha gathering while listening to Kashmiri music, Rohit was told by one of the young KP boy “Kya Mahra Chuv Bakwas Bozan”

The thought, though simple but powerful, “Language and Music can transend boundries between the globally scattered KP diaspora and keep us connected to our roots,” gave birth to this Idea of starting a Kashmiri Music app.

 

What better name to choose than “BOOZIV”.

 

HELP US CONNECT TO OUR ROOTS THROUGH MUSIC

 

The Exodus of 1990 was not the first time Kashmiris Pandits were forced out of their homelands. It is being said that there have been atleast 7 historically recorded exoduses.

However, the exodus of 1990 was more complete and widespread than ever before. The Exodus not only forced the Kashmiri Pandits to leave the home land and live across different cities, states in India and abroad, but also threatened the very social and cultural fabric of the community.  Over the last 28 years the exodus has forced upon us an identity Crisis and the younger generation has even lost touch with the language, the most prominent identity we all share.

While we have done well in imbibing the culture of the place where we have started living now, we have started to forget our culture, our ways of life, our language and everything that defines us.

Music helps to define who we are, creating our communal self-identity. Our musical likes and dislikes, to a great extent, are defined by the culture we identify with.  Our culture is such an important part of music, we can look at music from a cultural perspective as well as a musical perspective.

One thing that can help us to Identify with our roots, social fabric and culture is Music and Cinema.

The Kashmiri Music Streaming App “Booziv” is an attempt at connecting the Kashmiri Pandit community to their roots, their socio-cultural identity, their language, their musicand to the love of their motherland.
