We have the luxury to sleep in peace thanks to the soldiers who stay awake guarding our borders. Their love and dedication for the nation is unconditional and over the years scores of them have sacrificed their life to keep us safe.

One of the states which has seen so many of its sons perish for Bharat Mata has been Uttarakhand. Former Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Tarun Vijay had conceptualized and is executing the idea of the state’s first war memorial - Shaurya Sthal.

The memorial situated in Dehradun, assumes special significance for the people of the state. Every second house in the state has a Fauji and over 2,200 of them have laid their lives to protect the nation’s honour. The names of each and every one of them will be etched on the memorial in humble remembrance of their sacrifice.

Be it in Kashmir, Naxal infested areas, the Northeast or even the 26/11 terror attacks, soldiers from Uttarakhand have always risked their lives to fight the enemies of the country.

This memorial – a humble tribute to their sacrifice, is all set to be inaugurated this August at the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Its Bhoomi Pujan was performed by erstwhile Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar in 2016, who is also the founder patron of the trust.

Other eminent trustees are Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar, former Navy Chief Admiral D K Joshi (retd), Air Marshal B D Jayal, (retd), Vice Admiral Vasant Koppikar (retd), Brig R S Rawat and Tarun Vijay.

When complete, the war memorial will be a poignant but a glorious site. It will contain nine walls of honour and host relics like artillery guns, guns, a MiG 21 airframe, and a war ship model which have been donated by our Chiefs of Armed Forces.

Help Us Build The War Memorial

While the war memorial is being constructed with the help of Rs 2.38 crore MPLAD funds sanctioned by Tarun Vijay ji, they need your help in maintaining the monument and hosting regular programs to inspire youths to join the armed forces.

Your contributions will not only help maintain the Uttarakhand War Memorial, it will also help take care and renovate all the existing memorials in the state. The trust will also organize round the year programs paying homage to the martyrs and to inspire the youths to join the armed forces.

They wish to retell stories of India’s greatest military victories and keep alive the valor of the braves like Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat (MVC) who heroically saved Arunachal Pradesh from the Chinese in 1962.

The trust also wants to construct a small museum on the site and needs funds to ensure proper security of the monuments.

They as a result require a contribution of Rs 2 Crore from you dear benefactors to ensure such initiatives are possible. The sole aim of the trust is to ensure proper respect and devotion towards our martyrs. Vijay ji and other members have devoted their lives towards this cause, they just need a small monetary support from your side to ensure their dreams of honoring our soldiers is a success. As we remember our fallen soldiers and strive to keep them alive in our hearts forever, we urge you to join us in building Uttarakhand's first war memorial.
