Background:

Adi Shankarar established a chakra in the temple to calm down the Devi, and make her Sowmya Roopi (calm). The temple is classified as Naalvar Padal Petra Stalam, and is believed to have been established in the 7th century by the Cholas. The presiding deity is Lord Shiva in the form of Thiagarajar.
The livelihoods of the priests working at the temple depend on the daily donations given by the devotees. Due to the COVID lockdown, the devotees visiting the temple has gone down, thereby impacting the lives of the Archakars.
